Foam Tape Supplier FAQ: Gap Bridging, Cold and Creep
Ten questions for a foam tape supplier on gap bridging, cold application, outgassing, telegraphing, moisture and…
Read this answer setTwelve answers from a tape converter in Shenzhen on quote inputs, machine ownership, brand material scope, slitting range and batch traceability.
Twelve questions buyers ask a tape converter in China before tooling is cut, answered by what is recorded and what is confirmed at quotation. Each answer states the conclusion first.
Send a drawing or a dimensioned sample, the material or construction class, the annual quantity, and how the part is used, because those four items let a converter price the converting steps instead of guessing at a catalogue line.
The honest answer differs by shop, so ask for the equipment list by machine type: at Xiangyu, slitting, rewinding, lamination and flat-bed, rotary, laser and CNC die-cutting run in our own 3,000 m² Shenzhen plant, which is what lets one lot number follow your order.
We supply tesa, 3M and Sekisui materials and convert them in-house, and the authorization scope is confirmed per enquiry, brand, market and product family, so the answer you get is specific to what you intend to buy and where you intend to sell it. We do not claim agency or distribution titles we cannot document for your territory; scope is written on our authorization page at enquiry level.
In many materials, yes: the achievable minimum width depends on material thickness, adhesive type and your edge-quality requirement, so the converter confirms it when your specification is reviewed rather than printing a number that changes with the next product.
Laminating tape to foam, film, liner or a second adhesive layer is a normal converting step, and it is how a build gets a thickness, a stiffness or a release behaviour that no single coated product carries from the mill. On the constructions we convert, adhesive runs 10 to 60 µm per side and double-sided constructions 0.05 to 1.0 mm total thickness, customised; routes are on the services overview.
For orders run here: our lot records reach the incoming material batch, the adhesive or stock lot it came from, the slitting date and the inspection record, which is the difference between a process history and a purchase invoice wearing a batch label.
Because those are the converter's actual costs: stock buys metres, converting steps buy machine time and setup, and tooling is cut for your geometry alone, so a line-item quote is auditable in a way a single catalogue price never is.
Yes, and we treat a video audit as a records session, not a corridor walk: machines running, one lot followed backwards in the system, a first-article report shown against the drawing it came from, and the ISO 9001 certificate and audit scope provided on request. The factory page names what to schedule.
The converter's job in that moment is to say so early and offer a path with your sign-off: same construction class from another qualified source, or your approved material held while you re-plan, with any substitution confirmed by a fresh sample before it ships against a live order.
Ask for the sample route in writing, because a laser prototype and a production part cut under rotary or flat-bed tooling can differ in edge and liner behaviour; our prototypes and production runs are planned on the same route unless the drawing review says otherwise. Prototype quantities available; production quantities agreed per part.
Shipments leave Shenzhen by express, air or sea, with LCL consolidation available, and paperwork follows the grade actually ordered: TDS, MSDS, RoHS and REACH statements, plus the first-article report for cut work. Payment and delivery terms are confirmed per order, not assumed from a printed Incoterms habit; see the general FAQ.
Sometimes, and the converter will tell you what it costs: a route change keeping the same drawing, material and liner format may need only a setup and a new first article, while one changing edge or release behaviour needs a fresh sample and your re-approval.
Commercial and process terms on this page are the questions a converter has to answer, not a standing offer. Order quantities, lead times, tooling charges, sample terms, freight and payment structures are confirmed at quotation against your drawing, your material and your destination, and only figures already published elsewhere on this site are stated as commitments.
