Languages of this site

English is the version of record. Every other language here is a reader's version of the same company and the same terms, published so a buyer can read and enquire in the language their team actually works in.

What each language version covers

A language tree carries the five pages a first enquiry needs; everything technical stays on the English page of record, linked from every translated block.

Translations are drafted against the English pages and reviewed by a reader who works in that language before the version is indexed. Until then the pages are open to anyone who arrives through the language switcher, and are marked noindex so an unproofread sentence cannot be quoted back to us as the contract.

What is not translated, and why

Three kinds of text stay English on purpose.

  • Technical data sheets, test methods and equivalence statements: a mistranslated number or a shifted adjective is a commercial dispute, so these are read in the language they were checked in.
  • Lane times, freight schedules and documentary requirements: these change with the carrier and the importer, so they are confirmed in the English quotation rather than restated in a second language.
  • Every commercial term: minimum order quantity, lead time, payment terms and Incoterms are set per enquiry in English, and no translated page may imply otherwise.

How the language switcher behaves

One switcher, in the page header and again in the footer, so a reader who arrives on the wrong language is never more than a click from their own.

  • A translated page links to the same page in the other language. Where a page exists only in English, the language page says so at the top and links to it, because a summary should never look like the whole of a technical page.
  • A language page links back to English under the same terms: the English home, the English market guide, the English enquiry form. There is no language version of the commercial relationship, only of the reading.
  • Search engines are told which versions describe the same page, and the English URL is marked as the default for a reader the site cannot place. A language that is still in review is left out of the sitemap and asked not to be indexed, so the switcher, not a search result, is how an unproofread page is reached.
  • The form is the same form in every language. Which language you wrote in, and which page you wrote from, arrive with the enquiry, so a Russian, Vietnamese, Thai or Spanish message is not mistaken for a web-address translation and sent to whoever happens to read English.

How a language version gets published

Four steps, and the third one is the only one that cannot be done by the website.

  • Draft: each sentence is written against the English page it belongs to. Nothing is added, because a translator who improves a specification has started writing a contract.
  • Check: the build rejects a translated page that carries a figure its English original does not, and rejects any wording that looks like a lead time, a tolerance or a minimum order.
  • Read: someone who works in that language and in this trade reads the finished pages and signs the wording off. This is the step the site cannot do for itself, and it is the reason every version here is currently marked review.
  • Publish: the version is switched from review to live, which lets it into the sitemap and into the language alternatives. The English pages do not change, and neither do the terms.

Questions about the translated pages

If I enquire in Russian, Vietnamese, Thai or Spanish, who answers?
The same team that answers English, and the enquiry tells them which language you wrote in. Where nobody in the office reads that language comfortably, the reply comes in English, and the English page of record is linked from it. You are never asked to re-send the enquiry in another language.
Does a translated page bind you to what it says?
No, and that is why each one is labelled. The commercial terms are set in the quotation, which is issued in English, and every translated page links to the English original it was written from. If a translated sentence and the English page disagree, the English page is what we both have to work with.
Can you add another language?
Yes, if three things are true: we publish a guide to that market in English, somebody who works in that language can read the finished pages, and the enquiry channel can answer it. Send the language and the country, and we will tell you which of the three we still need.
What is a review version, exactly?
A complete set of pages that a buyer can reach and use, that we have not yet had read and signed off by someone who works in that language. It is published so the wording can be checked in the place it will be read, and it is kept out of search results until that check happens.

Tell us what you need to bond, seal or insulate.

Send your drawing, substrate and volume. We answer in English with a material proposal and the checks still outstanding.
