What this service is for

A shortlist and a test plan, not a catalogue answer

Most enquiries that arrive as "which tape do you recommend" are not tape questions yet. They are a joint that fails, a line that cannot feed a part, a component being re-sourced, or a product that has to pass a test the current material misses.

So the work starts with the failure mode and the process: substrates, load, environment, cycle time, and what happens if the bond lets go. From there we shortlist constructions, propose what to test and who runs it, and turn the answer into a supply format your plant can order. Two or three options with a test plan is a more useful reply than one catalogue grade.

Capabilities

Material selection

Substrate, surface energy, load, temperature, humidity and UV.

Prototyping

Samples and die-cut prototypes for fit and function.

Test support

Peel, shear, aging and application trials with available data.

Supply program

Rolls, converted parts, kitting and replenishment.

Multi-brand

tesa, 3M, Sekisui and qualified alternatives in one comparison.

Documentation

TDS, MSDS, RoHS and batch traceability where available.

How the work is actually set up

What sits behind the service page, stated the same way as on the plant page, so a capacity claim can be checked in one place rather than in five.

Selection review

Substrate pair, surface energy, load type, temperature and humidity exposure, UV, chemicals, and the failure mode you cannot accept.

Prototype and sample build

Materials shortlisted, samples produced and, where necessary, a laminate or die-cut part built to test the concept rather than the datasheet.

Test plan

What to measure, on what sample, in what condition, and what result counts as a pass, agreed with your team before anything is tested.

Multi-brand comparison

Options from tesa, 3M, Sekisui and qualified alternatives lined up against the same requirement, with the available data stated and the gaps marked as gaps.

Supply program

Once the part is approved: format, batch control, inspection record, replenishment pattern and the documents your quality system needs.

The specification items we settle before quoting

Specification itemHow it gets confirmed
Requirement statementOne page saying what the joint has to do, in what environment, and how it fails. If that is wrong, everything after it is wrong.
Candidate listTwo or three constructions, each with the reason it is in the running and what would rule it out.
Test protocolSample preparation, conditioning, dwell, measurement method and acceptance criteria, written before samples ship.
Validation ownershipYour team qualifies the part on your product; we supply the material, the procedure and the data behind the recommendation.
Cost routeWhere the money goes: material, converting, tooling and inspection. A cheaper grade that needs two extra line steps is not cheaper.
Supply formatRoll, slit, die-cut, kitted or private-label, chosen against how the part is consumed.
Change controlWhat counts as a material, source or process change, and how it gets notified and re-approved.

Nothing in this table is a standing promise. It is the list we work through with you; the answers end up in the quotation and on the work order.

Process

Define the problem

Tell us the substrate, load, environment and failure mode.

Shortlist materials

We compare grades and propose a test plan.

Sample and test

Prototype and validate on your process.

Production supply

Convert, inspect, pack and ship with documentation.

What to send with a request

Send what you already have. A partial list still gets a useful answer, and whatever is missing simply becomes the question we ask back.

  • What two surfaces are being bonded, and how clean they are when they meet
  • What the joint carries: peel, shear, cleavage, vibration, or nothing but its own weight
  • Temperature, humidity, UV and chemical exposure over the life of the product
  • The failure you have had, or the test you have to pass
  • Cycle time, application method, and who applies it
  • Volume, target market, and the documents your customer will ask for

How the result is inspected and released

Documented shortlist

Every recommendation states the reason and the constraint, so your team can disagree with the logic rather than the product.

Sample records

What was tested, on what material batch, in what condition, and with what result, kept against the program.

Approval tied to a part

Approval attaches to a described construction and presentation, not to a family name.

Transfer to supply

The agreed construction, format and inspection scope move into the order without being re-invented at the first production run.

Packing and shipment

  • Development samples ship with the test procedure and the material record, so a result can be reproduced rather than remembered.
  • Trial quantities and production runs use the same construction description, so nothing is approved on a sample and shipped as something else.
  • Program material is labelled with grade, construction, lot and format, and export pallets carry ISPM 15-marked material.
  • Where a program needs staged delivery, prototype, pilot and production packs are marked distinctly so they cannot mix on a line.

Freight term, routing and destination charges are stated on the quotation. The logistics notes and the technical guides explain how each of those lines is worked out.

Questions buyers ask about Custom Adhesive Solutions

We do not know which tape to use. Can you help?
Yes. Tell us what you are bonding, the load, the temperature and the environment. We shortlist materials and propose a test plan.
Can you compare tesa, 3M and alternative materials?
Yes. We can propose multiple options with the available data so you can compare performance and cost.
Can you support a new product from prototype to mass production?
Yes. We support material selection, prototyping, die-cutting and production supply.
Tape or liquid adhesive dispensing for my assembly?
Tape is repeatable, has no cure time, stays where it was placed and is easier to inspect; liquid adhesive wins on complex three-dimensional geometry and gap filling. We review the joint, the cycle time and the inspection method before recommending either.
Does the engineering conversation cost anything?
Reviewing the application, shortlisting materials and agreeing a test plan are part of the enquiry. What gets quoted separately is physical work: prototype parts, trial laminates, test pieces and tooling. You will always know which side of that line a request falls on before we spend your money.
Who validates the final part?
You do, on your product and your process. We supply the construction, the recommended bonding procedure and the data we hold, and we stay in the loop when a test surprises either side. A converter who claims to validate your assembly for you is making a promise that belongs to your test rig.
Can you work to a target cost?
Yes, if the requirement is stated as a performance floor rather than as a product name. There is usually a cheaper construction that still passes, and a more expensive one being bought out of habit. Tell us what has to hold and what the part costs today, and we will show you where the money is going.
Can a small or new program get engineering time?
Yes, with the scope set honestly. A new product needs material selection, samples and a test plan; it rarely needs a full tooling program at the first quantity. We sequence the steps so the expensive commitments come after the design settles rather than before it.
