Battery Tab Holding Tape & Cell Fixing Materials

Adhesive tapes that hold tab protection wires and leads in place during assembly, fix cells inside a module and insulate where the design requires it — selected against your process and your test standard rather than a catalogue name.

The problem

Why this application is difficult

A battery pack asks contradictory things of one thin material. It must hold a tab or a protection wire still enough to survive handling and potting, release cleanly if the design expects removal, stay put through the temperature range of the pack, tolerate the electrolyte, solvent or cleaning chemistry it meets, and leave no residue on a surface that is later welded, glued or measured. Under automated placement the liner, the presentation and the release force become part of the process, and a tape that works on a bench can stop a robot picking up two pieces at once.

Our approach

What we review before proposing a material

Function of the piece first

We separate the roles before choosing anything: pre-tack during assembly, permanent lead securing, cell fixing, insulation, or compression pad retention. Each one fails differently, so each one gets a different construction.

Surfaces and chemistry

Cell casing material, coating, pouch foil, busbar, plastic holder and any residue from cleaning decide wetting and release. We ask for the surface list and the chemistry the tape will actually meet.

Heat, vibration and duration

Continuous pack temperature, peak during fast charge or fault conditions, cycle profile and vibration are reviewed together, because creep and edge lift show up over time, not on a same-day peel test.

Insulation and flame behaviour

Where the design calls for dielectric strength or a flammability classification, we work from the standard and the evidence your customer requires and confirm what the selected grade can document. We do not quote a certification a grade does not hold.

Placement, liner and cutting

Die-cut pieces, cut lengths or slit rolls are matched to your placement method, including liner material, release behaviour, presentation and waste removal, then sampled on the line.

What you get

  • One review across holding, fixing, insulating and damped roles instead of four separate enquiries
  • Samples with the construction, carrier and liner we actually intend to supply
  • Die-cut presentation matched to manual or automated placement
  • Any substitution identified before production, with the difference stated
  • Documents for the selected grade, with what is not covered made clear

FAQ

Do you have a tab holding tape for automated placement?
Yes, and the liner matters as much as the adhesive. Tell us the placement method, part size, annual volume and whether pieces are picked or peeled, and we propose a construction with the release and presentation that suits the line.
Can your tape replace a mechanical clip on a busbar?
Sometimes. We need the joint geometry, the load direction, whether the connection is serviceable, and the temperature and vibration profile before saying whether tape, clip or both is the right answer.
Do you supply flame-retardant battery tapes?
We work from the classification and evidence your customer requires and match a construction against that, rather than naming a certificate a grade does not hold. Send the requirement text from the specification.
Will tape residue affect later welding or gluing?
It can, so we ask which surfaces are welded, glued or measured downstream and select a construction and dwell that you can validate. A residue check on the real surface is part of the sample plan.
Can you supply insulation and bonding from one source?
Yes, both are in our range, and converted parts can combine several constructions in one delivery with the material of each piece stated on the paperwork.
