Solutions

Start with the problem, not the product

Each solution page describes the application, the construction options and the questions to settle before approval.

How we work

Material, conversion and validation together

A solution is more than a tape grade. The adhesive, carrier, liner, die-cut edge and application method all affect whether the part works on your line.

  • Application and failure-mode review before a material is proposed
  • Two or three constructions to compare, with the available data
  • Sample or first article for your own test
  • Production converting with dimensional and visual checks
  • Documents for the selected grade and market

Have a different application?

These pages cover common requests. If your application is not listed, describe the substrates, environment and failure mode — that is enough to start a review.

Match the request to the solution page

Each page below is written around a failure mode or a function rather than around a catalogue family, because that is how the enquiry usually arrives.

When a solution page is not enough

A solution page compresses what we have already seen: the application, the construction options, and the questions to settle before approval. It is a starting point, not an approval document, and the right next step is always a test on your own part.

  • Describe the substrates by what is under the tape, not by what the part is called
  • Name the failure you cannot accept, since that decides which property has to be tested first
  • Say how the part is installed and what the line will tolerate in format and unwind
  • Give the annual quantity and the first order, because they change the route more than the grade does
  • Send the drawing or a photograph if a shape is involved; a laser prototype and a tooled part are different conversations
FAQ

Solution questions

Do you work on applications not listed here?
Yes, regularly. The six pages cover the requests that arrive most often. When an application is outside them, we review it as an assembly problem and say whether it is an existing construction, a laminate of two, or something that needs a material we do not currently carry.
Can one solution combine several tape families?
That is the normal case rather than an exception. A battery module can take an insulation film, a thermal interface and a holding tape in the same assembly, and a harness wrapping job usually compares cloth, foam and PET before anything is fixed.
What do you need to start a solution review?
The two surfaces, the load or function, the environment and the failure mode. A drawing, a photograph of the joint or the brand grade you use today all help; none of them are required to begin.
Is a solution page a guarantee that it will work for me?
No. It records what has worked and why. Adhesive performance belongs to the substrate, the preparation, the method and the service conditions, so approval comes from your own test on your own product.

Describe the failure you cannot accept.

We will propose a construction and a test plan around it.
