What we solve

Aging, not first bond

Heat, humidity, salt spray and vibration over a service life measured in years.

Fire and smoke requirements

Interior materials in rail and aerospace builds are specified against flammability and smoke criteria set by the programme.

Noise and vibration

Trim, linings and cable ducts must stay put and stay quiet on a moving vehicle.

Mixed substrates

Aluminium, composites, painted steel and plastics sit in the same cab or carriage.

No drilling

Shell, deck and body panels cannot be drilled, so the bond has to carry the load.

Documentation

Buyers ask for material and batch records before a part enters a build.

How a typical project runs

Interior trim in a rail carriage refit

01

Challenge

A refit workshop had to fix linings and cable ducts inside a carriage without drilling into the shell, and the parts had to survive cleaning agents, humidity and vibration.

02

Approach

We shortlisted an acrylic foam tape and a flame-retardant-rated construction, reviewed the substrate and primer condition, and supplied die-cut pieces with the fixing layout for the workshop trial.

03

Outcome

The trim was fitted with tape instead of drilled fasteners, the procedure was written up for the workshop, and the material and batch records were filed with the work order.

FAQ

Do your tapes meet rail or aerospace flammability standards?
Flammability and smoke requirements are set by the programme and the standard it cites. Name the standard and the part and we will state plainly which grades have documentation for it — we do not claim a certification the grade does not hold.
Can tape replace mechanical fasteners on interior panels?
Where the joint is engineered for it. We look at panel size, substrate, load, thermal movement and whether the panel has to come off in service.
Can you supply kits for a vehicle build?
Yes. Parts can be die-cut, numbered and packed as a kit per carriage, per vessel or per build sequence.
Do you serve the aftermarket and refit business?
Yes. We supply converted parts and slit rolls to repair shops, refit workshops and equipment builders, with the same documentation practice as series work.

Approval path

What a transport programme asks for before a tape is approved

Rail, marine, commercial vehicle and aerospace buyers rarely approve a material on a peel value. These are the items that appear on almost every approval list.

ItemWhy it appearsWhat to send with the enquiry
The standard actually citedFlammability, smoke and toxicity requirements come from the programme clause, not from the industry labelThe standard and clause the part is specified against
Substrate and primer conditionAluminium, composite, painted steel and aged refit surfaces behave differentlyThe panel, its coating and how old it is
Load and failure modePeel, shear, peel under vibration and thermal cycling are four different questionsWhat the part carries and what has already failed
Service accessA lining that must come off for a cable pull cannot be bonded like a permanent panelWhether maintenance has to remove it
Batch recordsBuilds are audited, so the material has to be traceable to the work orderThe documentation set your quality system expects
Kit formatCarriage, vessel and build-sequence kits change packing more than they change the adhesiveHow the workshop consumes the parts

Fire performance is a statement about a grade, not about us

Transport buyers ask for a flame-retardant tape and are often offered one without being told which test, which thickness and which direction it passed. We would rather describe the limitation than repeat a marketing sentence, so this is how the question is handled here.

  • The requirement is read as a clause and a test method, because "rail approved" is not a property
  • The candidate grade is checked for documentation of that method at the thickness you intend to use, since results do not scale across gauges
  • Where the documentation exists it is issued for the grade and lot; where it does not, that is stated at enquiry and the search starts there
  • A construction that passes a vertical burn test still needs its own bond, seam and primer review, and we treat the two as separate approvals
  • Refit and aftermarket work is quoted against the same evidence base as series build, because the audit trail is the same
FAQ

Rail, marine and vehicle build questions

Do you supply tapes for aircraft production?
We supply masking, protective and damping constructions into aircraft build and ground support equipment work, and we are straightforward about scope: certification material for a flight-critical part belongs to the programme and its approved material list, not to a distributor claim.
Can you handle a refit where the surface is years old?
Yes, and it is a different conversation from new build. Coating condition, cleaning route and the primer left on the panel decide the construction, so refit work starts with samples taken from the actual vehicle.
Can parts be delivered as a kit per vehicle?
Yes. Die-cut parts can be numbered and packed per carriage, per vessel or per build stage, which is usually where the savings appear once the fastener stations are removed.
What is the lead time for a transport programme?
It depends on the construction, the width and whether tooling is involved, so it is confirmed at booking against your release pattern rather than published as a single number.
Do you support the aftermarket as well as OEM build?
Yes. Repair shops, refit workshops and equipment builders order the same converted parts and slit rolls, with the same material records kept per work order.

Need a material that survives the climate?

Send your application and target market. We will shortlist grades for heat, humidity and UV before you commit to tooling.
