How a typical project runs

Export carton sealing for humid conditions

01

Challenge

An exporter needed carton tape that would hold during sea freight and humid storage.

02

Approach

We recommended a MOPP tape with an acrylic adhesive and supplied samples for the customer’s board and climate.

03

Outcome

The tape was approved and added to the packaging specification.

FAQ

Can you print our logo on carton tape?
Yes. Printed MOPP and other packaging tapes are available with custom artwork, subject to minimum order quantities and artwork approval.
Do you supply custom widths?
Yes. We slit rolls to the width required by your carton sealer or packaging line.
Which tape is best for humid export cartons?
The board, adhesive and storage conditions matter. We can recommend a MOPP or cloth tape and provide samples for your trial.

Format decisions

The specification decisions behind a carton tape

Packaging tape looks like the simplest buy in the catalogue. These are the choices that decide whether it runs well or quietly costs you time.

DecisionWhat it changesWhat to state with the enquiry
WidthUnwind behaviour, coverage per carton and cost per sealed metreThe head on your sealer, or the hand length your packers use
Adhesive systemInitial grab on recycled board versus holding through humid storageWhether the carton goes straight into the container or sits in a hot store first
BackingTear direction, printability and how the seam looks on the shelfMOPP for print and moisture, cloth where strength matters more
Core and lengthHow often a dispenser is reloaded and how many splices per shiftMachine or hand use, plus roll length your holder takes
Unwind direction and noiseLine acceptance more often than anyone expectsA sample roll to run before the order, because this is not a datasheet property
PrintHandling marks, brand presentation and the artwork minimum that appliesColours, repeat length and whether the artwork is final

Humid export is a different test

A tape that seals perfectly in a dry warehouse can release during the weeks it spends at sea. The failure is usually not the initial bond but the hold under humidity and load, which is why an export carton deserves a different trial than a domestic one.

  • Seal cartons with the board you actually buy, including recycled content, not a clean sample board
  • Load the cartons, because a sealed and stacked joint is a different stress from a sealed and empty one
  • Ask for heat-aged and humidity-aged data on the candidate grade, or run your own aging alongside the initial check
  • Check the seam after the transit profile you expect, not after the days your test schedule allows
  • Record whether the failure was the adhesive, the board surface or the tape itself; they need different fixes
  • Put the result in the packing specification, so the next order is checked against the same evidence
FAQ

Packaging tape questions

Can you match a brand tape we already buy?
Yes, as a construction rather than a name. Send the part you use and we will describe what it is, then offer the equivalent we can supply or convert, with the differences that matter for your line.
What is the minimum for printed tape?
Printed runs carry their own minimum because plate and artwork steps are involved, and the number follows the colours and repeat length you specify. It is confirmed with the quotation rather than published as one figure.
Do you supply rolls for automatic sealers as well as hand use?
Both. Automatic equipment cares about core, length, unwind direction and splice limits, so those items are fixed at order review rather than left to the general specification.
Is a cloth tape stronger than MOPP for our cartons?
Usually in tear resistance and handling damage, not automatically in sealing cost. The honest comparison depends on the board, the humidity and whether the seam has to look good on a shelf.
Can one order cover sealing, bundling and masking?
Yes, and it usually reduces cost per line item because they share freight and paperwork. The three families behave differently on removal, so each is specified separately inside one order.
