Case Studies From the Converting Floor

Written-up jobs with the sequence that produced the result: the request, the constraint, what was decided at each node and what the buyer received. Process steps come from our own records; outcome figures are only published when the buyer confirms them.

Why there are three and not six

Three of the six case studies in this set are written up but held back. Their process steps are complete; the outcome figures are not confirmed by the buyer yet, and an effect we cannot evidence is a claim we will not publish. They appear here when the customer record behind each number is cleared.

Case structure

What a published case is made of

Every case on this site is assembled from the same five records, and the last one is only printed when the buyer agrees with it.

A case study is easy to write badly. The version that helps a buyer is not the one with the biggest number in it, but the one that shows where the decision was made and what evidence closed it.

RecordWhat it holdsWhere it comes from
RequestThe part, the material, the market and what triggered the enquiryThe enquiry as it arrived, without the customer identity
ConstraintThe thing that could not be changed: a line, a spec, a port or a deadlineThe customer requirement recorded at review
Decision pointsWhat was chosen at each step and what was rejected insteadOur own production and quotation records
VerificationThe check that proved the decision, and how it was measuredInspection and test records from the plant
OutcomeThe result the buyer accepts being printedConfirmed by the customer before publication, or omitted

What makes a case publishable

  • The process steps are complete and taken from our own records, not reconstructed from memory
  • The material and route are ones we can still supply, so a reader can act on the page
  • No customer is named unless they have cleared the reference in writing
  • Every outcome figure is confirmed by the buyer before it appears; a number we cannot evidence stays out of the page
  • The page states what would have gone differently under other conditions, because a single job is not a standard
FAQ

Case study questions

Why only three cases?
Three of the six written-up jobs are held back. Their process records are complete, but the outcome figures have not been confirmed by the buyer yet, and an effect we cannot evidence is a claim we will not publish. They appear here once the customer record behind each number is cleared.
Can you show a case in my industry?
Ask. The published set covers die-cut MOQ release, an FOB-to-CIF cost review and an export packaging verification. Industry-specific applications are described on the industry and application pages, which carry the same decision sequence without pretending to a result.
Will you use our project as a case study?
Only with written agreement, and normally without naming you. Many buyers prefer the opposite of the usual arrangement: the numbers stay private, the method gets described. We treat that as the default rather than the exception.
Are the figures audited?
They come from production and inspection records, not from a marketing summary. On request we can walk a specific case back to the paperwork during a supplier audit, which is a better test than any published number.

Ask the question behind the page.

Send the part, the material and the market you sell into. We answer with what we can actually hold, and we say so in writing before tooling.
