Twelve questions on buying die-cut tape parts, answered with the condition behind each claim: tooling ownership, matrix removal, liner format, tolerance wording, prototype supply and inspection records.

What files do you need to quote die-cut tape parts?

A dimensioned PDF lets a person price the part, while a DXF or STEP file lets the same outline drive nesting, tool design and the inspection overlay, and either is enough with kiss or through stated on the face view. Send a sample or photos with the controlling dimensions and we confirm the drawing before tooling is cut.

Can production tooling be skipped for prototypes?

Laser cutting answers this most of the time, since it works from the vector file with no hard tooling, which keeps a design that will still move cheap to sample and honest to revise between prototype runs. Where a flat-bed plate is cut early, ownership and re-cut terms go in the agreement first.

How much material should we order for evaluation?

A single roll supports a bench trial and a short line trial, and for converted parts we provide prototype quantities with fit and function checked first, because production quantities are agreed per part rather than read off a minimum. Name the format the station needs so the sample is representative, not merely convenient.

How should tolerance be written on an adhesive-part drawing?

Mark only the dimensions the assembly controls, leave the rest to a review of material, thickness, part size and cutting route, and expect the achievable figure stated against your drawing before tooling is cut. Our tolerance guide explains why a machined-metal frame copied onto a soft part buys cost without function.

What is the difference between kiss cut and through-cut?

A kiss cut severs the tape but stops at the release liner, so parts stay arranged in a web for peeling, hand or automated, while a through-cut severs the whole stack for a loose part, gasket or pad. State which one on the face view; otherwise whoever runs the job decides.

How does the waste matrix come away from small parts?

On open layouts a stripping station lifts the scrap web whole, but as pitch tightens the web breaks, so the practical levers are wider bridges, micro-perforation, revised cut sequences, die strippers or laser waste removal. Each trades price against yield and edge quality, chosen on your geometry rather than in general.

Can you supply parts on a slit liner for automated placement?

Yes, and the liner becomes specification: PET film or glassine slit to a strip width that indexes on your feeder, with pitch, rotation, matrix state and release level agreed against the placement method before tooling. Widths below 10 mm are feasible on most materials once thickness, coat and edge requirements pass review.

Can one part combine several materials?

Multi-layer stacks are routine: a die cut tape part can bond film, foam, adhesive and liner into one assembly cut as a unit, and the review then covers total thickness, layer bonding, which layer the cut crosses and how the stack relaxes afterwards. Lamination runs in-house, so you receive one converted part, not three components and an instruction; see the grade library.

Which route fits my part: flat-bed, rotary or laser?

The route follows outline, material and annual volume together: laser while the design still moves, flat-bed for complex contours and layered stacks, rotary when a frozen geometry runs roll-fed in quantity. The die-cutting page lists the four routes we run and what each asks of a drawing.

What does a first-article report cover?

For a drawing-based project it records each measured dimension against the drawing revision with the method and equipment used, plus visual inspection of edges, corners and strip marks at magnification, so the report tests the tolerance claim against the real part. We issue first-article reports per project; ask for a redacted sample.

Do you tell buyers when a material or route changes?

Make it a written term: source film, adhesive coat, liner and cutting route can all move without touching a part number, so notification of those four, with your approval before a change runs, belongs in the agreement. Where the stock is branded, the authorization scope is confirmed per enquiry, brand, market and product family.

Can you convert material from the brands we already qualify?

We supply and convert tesa, 3M and Sekisui materials in-house, with the authorization scope confirmed per enquiry, brand, market and product family, and the converted part is quoted from your drawing like any other construction. That is not an equivalence claim: a transferred grade validates on your line against your drawing.

Commercial and process terms on this page are the questions a converter has to answer, not a standing offer. Order quantities, lead times, tooling charges, sample terms, freight and payment structures are confirmed at quotation against your drawing, your material and your destination, and only figures already published elsewhere on this site are stated as commitments.

We answer on the specific construction: what we hold, what we slit or laminate, what the quantity and the terms look like for your job.
