The problem
Why this application is difficult
E-commerce packaging has two jobs that work against each other. It has to survive a courier network and it has to open without a knife, in one motion, by a customer standing at a door. Add a recycling target and the answer changes again, because a plastic tear strip on a paper box is a separation step nobody actually performs. The opening tape sits exactly in the middle of those three requirements.

What we review before proposing a material
Closure strength first
The opening strip does not carry the box; the main closure does. We review carton weight, contents and the distribution route before choosing, because a tear strip on a weak closure simply opens the box early.
Single-material build
Paper-based facestock and liner options exist so the strip can travel through the waste paper stream with the carton. Where a brand requires that, we state which part of the construction is paper and which is adhesive.
Grain direction and pull behaviour
A paper strip that tears off-axis is worse than no strip at all. We review the application direction, how the tab is presented and how much force is expected at the corner.
Application on your line
The tape has to run: unwind behaviour, splice frequency and the surface it is applied to all matter. Where the material manufacturer publishes a recyclability test for a grade, we refer you to that document rather than repeating its result as our own claim.

FAQ
Does a paper opening tape hold as well as a plastic one?
It holds differently, and it is chosen for the closure it belongs to. The honest answer depends on the carton, the humidity of the route and the tab design, so we would rather review the pack than promise a strength figure.
Can the whole box be recycled as it is?
A single-material build is the point of a paper strip, but whether a pack is accepted by a given stream depends on the board, the ink and the local facility. Where a material manufacturer has published a test result for a grade we refer you to that document.
Can you supply the strip pre-applied?
Yes, as converted parts or in the roll format your applicator uses, with the tab, the exposed length and the presentation agreed against how the box is closed and opened.
Will the strip cut the contents?
A designed opening strip should not, which is why the position relative to the flap and the contents matters. Tell us what is inside and how deep the strip sits, and we review it before sampling.
