Wire Harness Tape for Wrapping, Protection and Noise Damping

Wrapping, abrasion protection, noise damping and insulation materials for automotive and industrial harnesses, chosen with the wrap process and the routing environment in mind.

The problem

Why this application is difficult

A harness tape is applied at speed, under stretch, at a fixed overlap, and then expected to stay quiet for the life of the vehicle. It can fail by unwinding at a terminal, losing adhesion where the bundle flexes, allowing chafing noise against a panel, or by being the wrong thickness for a robot wrap head. Under-hood routes add heat and fluids; door and parcel-rack routes add cyclic flexing; and rattle requirements are judged on the assembled vehicle, not on a roll.

Our approach

What we review before proposing a material

Separate the jobs

Primary wrapping, abrasion protection, noise damping, insulation, marking and correction bundling are different requirements. We agree which one a position needs before any grade is discussed.

Wrap process parameters

Stretch, overlap, tension, cut-off point and whether wrapping is manual or on a machine decide suitable thickness, conformability and unwind resistance. A tape that works by hand can fail on a robot, and the reverse is also true.

Environment along the route

Peak temperature, continuous temperature, oil, coolant, salt, abrasive dust and contact with a moving part are reviewed per route, since one harness passes through several zones.

Noise and chafing behaviour

Where a rattle or squeak requirement applies, we test the tape against the actual contact surface, including sleeve, corrugated tube and clip interaction, because damping performance is a system property.

Supply format

Jumbo and slit rolls, cut lengths, perforated rolls for machine heads and die-cut patches for loom tables are all supplied from the same material, so the format matches the work cell.

What you get

  • Tape selected with the wrap method, not only the specification line
  • Roll, cut-length, perforated and die-cut supply from one material source
  • Damping checked against the surface the harness actually touches
  • Heat and fluid exposure reviewed per route rather than for the whole loom
  • Consistent grade documentation so a changeover can be traced

FAQ

Which tape should wrap a wire harness?
It depends on the position. Cloth tapes are the usual general wrap because they conform and can be torn by hand; fleece constructions are chosen where damping matters; film and foil constructions where heat or fluids are the problem. Tell us the route and the process and we shortlist.
Do you supply perforated rolls for automatic wrapping machines?
We review the machine requirement, the roll width and the cut point, then propose the suitable format. Send the machine type and the wrap parameters with the enquiry.
Can tape replace abrasion sleeving?
In some positions, and often the answer is tape plus sleeve or sleeve alone. We compare the contact, the flex cycle and the assembly access before recommending a route.
How do you check creak and rattle performance?
Against the surface the harness touches, with the assembled bundle, because damping is a system property. We can support the sample stage and the comparison you need for approval.
Do you supply harness tapes to factories outside China?
Yes. We ship from Shenzhen, and freight, documents and Incoterms are confirmed against the destination plant at quotation.
