Lead time for die-cut tape from China is confirmed at quotation against three dated inputs — arrival of the ordered material, tooling and route, and the booked machine window — and each answer names the event that controls it.

Where the clock starts

What is the lead time for a custom die-cut tape order from China?

No standing figure is published, because the date is derived from your drawing revision, whether the construction is slit in-house or imported for the job, the route the outline runs on, and the window the planner can hold. It is confirmed at quotation once those four are known.

Which event starts the count?

Signed drawing acknowledgement rather than the purchase order, since tool geometry, nesting and the material reservation all follow from the revision both sides agreed. Ask which event a date begins on and the gap between quotations explains itself.

Why do two converters give different dates for the same drawing?

Because the input that moves first is rarely the cutting step: one shop holds the construction as its own slit stock while the other waits on a coat lot through distribution and inherits a schedule it did not set. Ask whether the grade is on the floor first.

Sampling, tooling and first articles

How quickly can prototype parts be cut?

Faster than a production run, for a checkable reason: laser and CNC routes work from the vector file with no hard tooling, so fit and function are proven from material already in the building while the production lot stays open. A prototype date is not a production date.

Can samples go by courier before production is scheduled?

Yes, that is the normal sequence for a drawing-based part: sample sets move by express with the freight arrangement confirmed at enquiry, while the production window is booked later against the signed revision. Name the format your station consumes.

Can we get a firm date before tooling is made?

You can get the dated inputs — material arrival, tooling fabrication, cutting window, first-article review — which is what a firm date is made of, while the shipping date itself follows once the plate or cylinder is committed. Ask for the four lines rather than one number.

Releases, transit and slippage

Does a quoted production date include the shipping leg?

It should not, because the two belong to different functions: production ends at the shipping date and transport is scheduled afterwards on your chosen term, with the ranges on our market pages describing transit rather than promising an arrival. Keep them apart: a forwarder change then cannot damage a date.

Can one order ship as partial batches?

Usually, where the drops are drawn from a single run and the batch records stay straight, since staged release is how a converter absorbs a forecast change without re-cutting; the pattern and its dates are agreed per order.

What makes a date slip most often?

Three things, in order: a drawing revised after tooling is cut, a coat lot that moves at the material supplier, and a window taken back by an earlier job — all visible in a dated plan, none visible in a single figure. The cutting route decides how costly the first is to undo.

What are the conditions for a rush order?

Material already on the floor, a route needing no new tooling or a tool re-cut without redrawing, a window that can be resequenced without moving another customer, and a packing plan ready to follow. Where they hold, the date is confirmed at quotation; where they do not, the answer is a re-plan, not a fee.

Do Chinese public holidays affect the schedule?

They affect every factory in the same weeks, which is why orders around the lunar new year shutdown are placed against the plan published before it, and why booking material and tooling ahead of those weeks keeps a normal window available afterwards. Ask how the plan looks across them.

Does the width you order change the timing?

It changes which step the job enters: narrow slit rolls come off a master roll on the slitter and share that construction's material plan, while a converted part also waits on tooling; widths below 10 mm are feasible on most materials, per the slitting page.

Send the drawing and your consumption pattern through a quotation request and the dated inputs come back named under each stage.

Commercial and process terms on this page are the questions a converter has to answer, not a standing offer. Order quantities, lead times, tooling charges, sample terms, freight and payment structures are confirmed at quotation against your drawing, your material and your destination, and only figures already published elsewhere on this site are stated as commitments.
