A hardware chain or a regional distributor running a private label tape line wants a branded box that reorders identically under its own part number, and the two channels reach that box by opposite routes. Neither is a technical failure waiting to happen; they are simply different buying jobs, and the review has to match the job.

The two scenarios

In the first, an independent distributor of industrial consumables builds a house range so that a factory customer can pull sealing, masking and double-sided tapes from one shelf without brand shopping. The distributor holds no coating line and wants range depth and steady replenishment.

In the second, a hardware retail chain wants a small, recognised-format range — a clear packing tape, a masking tape and a couple of double-sided formats — presented for the aisle at a price the shelf tolerates. Here the pack and the barcode matter as much as the adhesive.

Both are legitimate branded supply programs, and the difference is what has to be owned: the distributor owns a wide specification set, the retailer owns a tight, presentation-heavy one.

What the channel puts on the part

The load is not mechanical first; it is commercial. A packing tape on a warehouse carton is judged at the dispenser and on the pallet, so unwind, tack under dust and core fit at the station are the real conditions. A masking tape is judged on whether it lifts clean after a warm day in a shed. A double-sided format is judged on the one bond the customer attempts. Layered on top are storage realities: a container to a humid port, then a rack that cycles temperature. None of that is exotic, but a branded part must survive it under the buyer's name rather than a brand that absorbs the complaint. A shelf that sits under store lighting for weeks also fades print and dries a rubber coat, so the pack and the adhesive age together and both belong in the same review.

The five items we review before committing a program

  1. Construction against the channel's actual use, not the shelf picture — chemistry, thickness and release set against the load described above, reviewed against your drawing and use condition.
  2. Roll build and core against the station the end user has, so the printed tape face still unwinds cleanly.
  3. Artwork, print and the pack as one object, gated by a signed proof and a pre-production sample.
  4. Documents that will ship in your name, confirmed per document at quotation, on the grade actually ordered.
  5. The frozen construction and its change rule, so a re-order matches the first run instead of inheriting a silent material swap.

How it is converted

Packaging and masking formats come from MOPP, cloth and crepe families that also carry print, and can be slit to the shelf widths the aisle expects. Double-sided and foam house SKUs are built from the standard constructions and slit or die-cut to size. Print runs through artwork approval and a colour proof before a full branded run. Kitted sets and retail-ready packs are assembled to specification. Where the retail pack needs a hanging tab or a tamper seal, that is built into the converting plan rather than added downstream, because a pack detail fixed late is a pack detail that has to be re-proved. Production quantities and artwork are agreed per part, and sampling and production timing is confirmed at quotation against material availability and route.

What the buyer sends to start

To scope a program, the useful packet is small: the product formats you want under your name, a target market and channel, the roll and core sizes you expect, artwork or a pack reference, and the annual volume band so the route can be priced honestly. From that, the OEM and private label service turns a shelf plan into a frozen spec; where a format must be developed rather than selected, custom solutions covers it, and the masking and packaging and double-sided pages list the families that make a house range.

Start the conversation

Send a drawing, a shelf plan or a sample roll to yantian0606@gmail.com or on WhatsApp at 8613554863137. We will map which of the five items is already settled and which needs a proof before your brand goes on a box.

Commercial and process terms on this page are the questions a converter has to answer, not a standing offer. Order quantities, lead times, tooling charges, sample terms, freight and payment structures are confirmed at quotation against your drawing, your material and your destination, and only figures already published elsewhere on this site are stated as commitments.
